This Week on InnerLines
Hi fellow bookworms,
Have you heard of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen? This author duo is known for misdirection, unreliable perspectives, and that uncomfortable feeling that you’re missing something important.
Their thrillers look simple at first… marriage, friendship, belonging, but then quietly tighten into something darker until you realize you’ve been reading the whole situation wrong.
I highly recommend checking out their work. Today, I’m giving a quick review of two of their books. I’ve read four in total, and each one is twisty and dark in its own way.
Let’s get into it 😊
📚 Books in short (no spoilers)
Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen: You are not alone
Short summary 🙂
You might know someone like Shay Miller, or you might be her on a bad week. She’s craving connection, but dating never seems to stick. She wants her life to feel meaningful, but her job is going nowhere. And more than anything, she wants to belong… yet her world keeps shrinking, getting quieter and more isolated.
Then she meets the Moore sisters. They’re magnetic. Polished. Surrounded by an unbreakable inner circle that radiates confidence and effortless glamour. They always seem to land on their feet and they always get what they want. Shay thinks she’s stepping into the life she’s been missing.
But she’s about to learn something darker: the sisters aren’t offering her a seat at the table out of kindness.
I can honestly say I’m obsessed with this duo’s writing. You Are Not Alone might be one of my favorites from them. Told in three parts, Shay is the primary narrator who is compulsively drawn to statistics, mathematical charts, and oddly specific details, like how many women die by suicide on subway tracks.
Shay is a loner, with no close friends, spending most of her time alone. When the Moore sisters approach her under the guise of friendship, she slowly lets her guard down. With their encouragement, she begins to gain confidence, only for it to become clear that their kindness hides a darker motive aimed at exploiting her vulnerability.
This book is a reminder that not every open door is an opportunity. You Are Not Alone is twisty, unsettling, and quietly disturbing, especially if you enjoy thrillers where friendship becomes a weapon.
It’s a dark, intriguing story that serves as a warning: be careful what you wish for.
My rating (4.2/5)
Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen: The wife between us
Short summary 🙂
The main character, Vanessa, was once married to Richard. They were wealthy in every sense of the word, money, lifestyle, appearances. From the outside, she seemed to have everything. But Vanessa couldn’t get pregnant, and that slowly contributed to the downfall of their marriage.
Now she lives with her aunt, works in retail, and is trying to adjust to life without Richard. But she’s still deeply fixated on him — on everything he does and every woman he dates. Richard has moved on and is preparing to marry Nellie.
You think you understand this love triangle. You don’t.
This is a strong psychological suspense novel. It starts slow, then turns into a roller-coaster packed with twists. You think you’re reading about a jealous ex-wife consumed by obsession. You think you’re reading about a woman on the brink of a perfect marriage. You think you understand the motives, the past, and the relationships.
You don’t.
I can’t say much more without spoiling it, just don’t jump to conclusions too quickly.
This is absolutely a go-in-blind book. The less you know, the better.
My rating (4/5)
That’s it for this week’s InnerLines 🤍
I enjoyed You Are Not Alone and The Wife Between Us, but for different reasons. You Are Not Alone plays on loneliness and the dangerous pull of finally feeling chosen, while The Wife Between Us leans harder into misdirection and that constant “wait… what’s actually true?” feeling.
Both are addictive, twisty reads that prove why Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen are such a powerful duo, they know exactly how to mess with your assumptions.
If you’re new to their work, good news: they don’t just write together, they also have standalone novels, so you can easily pick up whatever plot fits your vibe.
See you in the next issue,
Tara
